Being a part of the Support UX team at Trade Me, I contributed to enhancing safety measures for our members, particularly in the domain of firearm transactions. This involved implementing a system that required users to possess a valid firearms license when buying or selling firearms on our platform.
My role encompassed refining the listing process for firearms in the hunting and shooting category, ensuring users were informed about the new requirement to have a saved firearms license in order to list such items.
In collaboration with the team, I meticulously considered various edge cases in the listing process and integrated functionalities within My Trade Me. This allowed users to conveniently input their license details, saving them to their accounts. Furthermore, I designed features to verify a member's license status when attempting to purchase a firearm through bidding, immediate purchase, or accepting a fixed-price offer. Our team engaged in an iterative process, refining the designs based on internal testing and seeking external feedback to address our members' existing pain points in the firearm purchasing experience.
This ongoing initiative has yielded positive results, with a successful adoption of the saved firearms license rollout. Presently, our team is working on expanding this functionality to encompass the sale of firearms parts and ammunition, further bolstering safety measures for our members.
